The Luwero Derby made the weekend

Ndejje Hoppers picked up maximum points against UPDF on a rainy day at the Arena of Visions in Ndejje as the afternoon rains interrupted the Luweero Derby and Game of the day that ended 33 - 27.

Despite the slippery grounds, the Student\'s opened their derby account through an Ongom Francis score on the fast break to dictate the proceedings and as was the norm the Army men kept on the back foot.

In a game void of lots of flair and technical componets due to the rain-soaked pitch, it was down to physic, speed and who distributed the ball better and made fewer errors, and while Abasi Kin Mwanje kept firing the Soldiers back into play, the Hoppers had other ideas.

Quick goals from the versatile Burundian import Arakaza Alex in the right wing, rendered Musa Okiria less appropriate in between the sticks.

UPDF on their side, created chances, but some schoolboy mistakes, coupled with the fluid machination that Ndejje was, even in the absence of their Captain Felix Mukunzi, was all it took for the University side to lead the game going into the locker room.

Perhaps the best action of the half came on the 30minute mark when UPDF\'s Ojwee John Paul unleased a scotcher of a shot from a foul throw at the 9Meter mark. The shot passed through the 6-man block to kiss the top left corner of the Goal. It was a shot that Ndejje Custodian Wamali Daglas Subzero could do nothing about, taking the game to rest at 17:14.

On the break it was business as usual for Ndejje as Brian Seruhogyi masterminded renewed attacks against UPDF with the support cast of Ongom and Onesmus Mukwaya. This assault forced UPDF tactician Omondi to change his game plan and introduce the experience of Chris Onen in Goal. The former National Team No.1 and current Goalkeeper Trainer didn\'t disappoint, registering a couple of fine saves to the delight of the fans who came from far and wide to enjoy the frenzy and pomp with which this Derby comes.

Both sides exhibited alot of defensive works in the second half and the margins were maintained at a pultry 3-goal lead in favor of Ndejje for most of the game as a Chris Onen and Abasi Mwanje-inspired UPDF stepped up the steam. Coach Henry Achidri then went for the green Card to call a timeout; which worked in his favour, as a few brilliant displays from Musoke Douglas and Arakaza Alex extended Ndejje\'s lead to 5goals after UPDF turned over 3 attacks in a row. Not even the quick breaks between Chester Alworunga and Abasi Mwanje in the dying minutes of the game, could deter the University side from taking a firm grip on the game as they kept their eyes on the price. It was a physical game in which Ongom Francis and Abasi Mwanje stood out for their teams with very solid, top drawer performances.

The game also had lots of talking points but well managed by the men-in-black and despite the evening extension of the rains, was very well attended.

The fans left satisfied with the performances.
