Transfer News - Clubs Complete their Mid- Season Signings

With the second round throwing off on 7th September, different clubs have enhanced their squads in a bid to strengthen their chances in the league. This newly introduced mid-season transfer window has seen more activity in the men’s league compared to the women.

Police Handball Club men’s team have secured the services of former Mukono Lions center back, Abdul Salaam on a free transfer. Before his transfer, he scored 35 goals, made 20 assists, 5 steals, 11 turnovers and 22 misses for his former side. Salaam comes in as a handy replacement for Center Back Lukwago Sharif aka Manlusha who has moved to Makerere University for studies and play for the university side, the Mak Bulls.

Other players joining Police handball Club include Kawere Hassan (Left back), Pirwoth Emmanuel (Right back) and Ayet Fred (Goal Keeper) with their women side recruiting only Akenyi Cynthia, a Pivot/line player.

Prisons Handball club have recalled back their Pivot player Julius Malinga to the men’s team, dropping Amazu Fred (Pivot), while their archrivals Ndejje University have made no new signing.

Ndejje University however added to their women’s team the services of left back Bukirwa Madina, and Right back Nantume Barbra with Nkumba University Tornadoes (Women) signing  Nampungu Joan (Left winger) and Namusisi Faridah (Centre back), all as free agents.

Makerere University Handball Club seems to have been the busiest in the break recruiting four men and four women to its squad but also releasing a number of players. Oswald Katambira (Centre back), Gilbert (left-winger), Matovu Lukanika (Right back), Hajara Kidandi (Left back), Nakabugo Budeciane (Left Half), Charlotte (right-winger) and Kantono (Centre back) joined as free agents on top of Sharif, who transferred from Uganda Police Handball Club. The Club also released Moses Kihembo (Pivot & Club Chairman), Balaam Karuma (Left Wing), Abdul Nassir Sserubiri (Right Wing) and Lucas. According to the team management, this is a normal procedure of releasing players who have completed school to allow room for more freshers.

Other recruitments included Kitebe Paul (center back), Atide Isaac (Centre back), Tugume Witness (Goalkeeper) and Kulabe Siraje (Pivot) for Kyambogo University Handball Club Men. Najjemba Rabecca (left winger) and Abasi Mwanje (pivot) also joined UPDF on free transfer.

The league, which started on 6th April is managed by GOWE Services on behalf of Uganda Handball Federation.
